Wedding Horror Stories?

Posted in Weddings on January 9, 2007 by klic

This page is dedicated to all the bride and grooms, families, and businesses that had the most horrible experiences with their wedding day.  In sharing your story you may be able to help other couples so they don’t have the same bad incidents.  We want to hear it all, from the limo company not showing, the minister not having the marriage license, the photographer not bringing equipment, the hall double booking and the wedding party getting so drunk the police had to get involved.

Please include how the problem you faced was dealt with so other people can understand or hope that there is a happy ending to every story.  This site is not to point fingers (we prefer you don’t include company names) but it is your story.  As photographers we hear it all, sometimes about other photographers too, but we are the only service that sees you through the whole process from the engagement to married and settled in.

If you would like to send a story email it to info@klicphotographicdesign.com or leave a reply.  If you would like it to remain anonoymous please add that note in your email.

Questions for hiring your Wedding Photographer

Posted in Weddings on January 7, 2007 by klic

Wedding photography is one of the most competitive industries nationwide and it’s no different in the Niagara Region.  The yellow pages are full, there are more than a dozen magazines, newspapers and other forms of media to advertise in and then there are always what we call “the basement dwellers” (friends of friends that own a camera) that get hired from being friends with the couple.   Niagara Falls is still the honey moon capital of the world and I believe there is enough work available for any photographer that wants it.  With so many photographers advertising sometimes it is hard for engaged couples to know even where to start researching their needs and wants.

Here is a sample of questions that I recommend you ask photography studios to narrow down your search:

How long have you been in business?  Are you professional photographers?  How many photographers are in your company?  How long are your consultations?

Below are questions for interviewing the right studio for you once you have narrowed your search:  (These questions are not in any particular order.  They are questions that have been asked to my studio and these are the answers that I believe in.  Some of these are silly but I tried to include a variety for you to pick and choose what is important to you.)

Do you charge travelling fees?

No, I will travel anywhere in Ontario for your day.  I believe it is important for your clients to know you will go the distance for them.  We charge differently for weddings outside of Ontario to help keep costs reasonable for our clients.

Will you travel?

Yes, we travel regularily.  Some clients are from Niagara that are being married out of town, some clients hire us on line and we meet at a foreign location like Mexico, England, and different parts of the States.  We only accept one couple per year for an international destination wedding due to the fact it is usually between 5-7 days.

Are your “packages” flexible?

We don’t offer packages at all.  We offer options to build your day.  We start with a time structure to fulfull your needs, for instance, we are not going to suggest unlimited coverage to a bride that does not want to see us until she walks down the aisle.

Will you go anywhere?

Yes, we don’t charge by location.  We believe in making your dream wedding a reality by going to the locations of your choice and not narrowing down your ideas to form to our wants.  We will not however recommend going to locations that will take up too much time of your day travelling.

Do you shoot digital or film?

We offer both systems.  I will recommend only digital if asked.  Professional digital systems have far surpassed film.  I would not recommend using a studio that does not have a professional digital system.  Equipment in our profession is the most important aspect of our work.  Without proper equipment we can not keep updated with today’s technology and in turn give our clients the best possible prints.

What equipment do you use?

I shoot with a Canon system that can only be purchased through a professional dealer.  I do not use amateur equipment that can be ordered from any camera store.

How do you dress?

My staff have a black formal dress code.  We do not wear uniforms and we do not wear skirts but we do look professional in dress slacks.  We have to move freely and flexible to capture different angles.

Do you drink at a wedding?

Definitely not.

Do you have a support system in case of an emergency?

Yes, I have a studio manager on call if she does not have a wedding booked as well.  If we do have several weddings during one weekend I enlist my husband.  One time, my husband had to drop off winter coats for all the girls in a wedding party due to an unnatural freak cold spell.

Have you been banned from any religous buildings?

No, the ministers from all the churchs we have been in have thanked us for our respectful conduct during the ceremony.

Have you had any cancellations and if so why?

Yes, we have had cancellations in the past.  None of them have been from any wrong doings on our behalf and all of them (I think maybe 3 in 9 years) have been from cancelling/rescheduling the wedding all together.

Do you use a professional lab for printing?

Yes, the price includes our work being printed at a professional lab.  It still amazes me that so many photographers don’t use professional labs and charge their clients an arm and a leg for their work.

Do you print yourself?

No of course not.  I am a photographer not a lab technician.

Do we need a deposit?

Yes, I believe leaving a deposit is an important business transaction finalizing a contract to reserve the day for our clients.

How can we pay?

A professional studio will offer visa, mastercard, american express, interac, cash and cheque to fulfull all of their clients financial needs.  We have made it easy for our clients with installments over the course of their contract to ease the financial burden of their wedding day.

It’s Bridal Show season!

Posted in Weddings on January 4, 2007 by klic

Come check us out in Hamilton on January 5, and 6 at the Hamilton Convention Centre put on by Beau Monde Productions from 11-5:30.  Beau Monde Productions also organizes the show for Niagara at The Quality Inn on Ontario Street in St. Catharines the weekend of January 13 and 14 from 11-5.  This is the best show around!

I can’t guarantee I will be at my booth but I will be there shmoozing with all the new brides and vendors.  If you like our display albums please feel free to grab a brochure.

Here are some things to ask your photographer while at a Bridal Show:

Are you professional photographers?  Do you have packages or a la carte?  How long have you been in business?  Are you local or do you charge traveling fees?

These are just a few questions to weed out photography studios that are not suited for your needs.  Of course, depending on what your needs are.  If you have emailed previously for pricing or availability please introduce yourselves.  I’d love to hear more about your day.  Hope to see you there!

Other Bridal Shows that we attend are Sheraton Fallsview, Rockway Glen Golf Course and Estate Winery, and all the fall Bridal Shows presented by Beau Monde Productions in the fall.  Dates are still to be determined.

KLIC Photographic Design Christmas Holidays

Posted in Weddings on December 20, 2006 by klic

We are closed from December 21st until January 4th.  All appointments previously scheduled will be kept but no new appointments will be made during this time.  Our studio will be open in time for the January bridal shows happening in Hamilton and St. Catharines.  My sister from Calgary is coming home for the holidays and the Christmas Season is the only time KLIC Photographic Design takes off.  Sorry for any inconvenience.  I will gladly return emails, phone calls and letters as soon as we reopen in the New Year.  Have a safe season.  Cheers!
